Soroptimist means “Best for Women”
Soroptimist International of Saratoga County is part of an international volunteer service organization of
business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in local communities and
throughout the world.
In 2010 alone Soroptimist International of Saratoga County donated over $15,000 to organizations that benefit
women and girls. They supported programs that helped: homeless women, women recovering from breast
cancer, women and children who have lived with domestic abuse, children with life threatening medical
conditions, children who have lost a parent and many, many other local causes. But Soroptimists don’t just
achieve impressive outcomes locally. They also address global issues affecting women and girls, such as sex
trafficking, genital mutilation, inadequate access to clean water and abortion rights. They also honor both
teenaged girls and women who make a difference in their community through volunteerism or career.
Project Hope and Power is an innovative collaboration between DVRC and Soroptimist, utilizing the volunteer
contributions of successful professional women to teach, guide, mentor and support other women to achieve
increased safety, self-confidence, and financial independence. This transformational program, launched in
2005, has helped more than 300 women and their children increase their employment, financial management
and minimize their risk of future abuse
What an important and fun event this was! The Inaugural Purple Pooch
Parade was held in Congress Park on Saturday, October 22nd and what a
turnout we had! Over 80 dogs and 200 humans showed up to raise
awareness and show their support! We had big dogs, little dogs, and
everything in between.
The turnout speaks volumes about the people and dogs of Saratoga County.
Saratoga County truly cares about the well-being of not only our citizens, but
our furry friends too!
